Why was Gerard Butler chosen to play the Phantom in the 2004 film version of The PHANTOM OF THE OPERA?
The 2004 film version of Andrew Lloyd Webbers musical, The Phantom of the opera, did not do so well with the critics. The filmmakers thought it was going to be a big hit but, unfortunately, it wasnt. The visuals were nice, but the whole performance was... disappointing. One of the main reasons for this was the actors chosen for the lead roles. Specifically, Gerard Butler. The man can not sing opera. At all. He may look nice in a cape with his shirt half open, but that is just another reason he should not have been cast as the Phantom. The Phantom was supposed to be a hideously deformed musical genius, not a rock star with a bad sunburn.
So, what were they thinking when they cast Mr. Butler in the lead role? Why didnt they choose someone with a better singing voice, someone who wasnt a chain smoker? Why did they downplay the Phantoms deformity? Why, when the musical did so well, did they change so much for the film?
Answer: I pretty much agree with you; Gerard Butler was not the best choice - even his singing was outshone by Emmy Rossum (Christine) and Patrick Wilson (Raoul).
On the behind-the-scenes feature in the DVD, Joel Schumacher (the director) said he was impressed with Gerry's performance (in a film called 'Dracula 2000'?). Unfortunately, Butler has had no singing experience and even Andrew Lloyd Webber had not even heard of him! However, Schumacher just made Gerard Butler stand in front of Webber (after just four singing lessons) and sing 'Music of the Night' to him...and the rest is history...
According to Wikipedia, Andrew Lloyd Webber admitted to saying: "We needed somebody who has a bit of rock and roll sensibility in him. He's got to be a bit rough, a bit dangerous; not a conventional singer. Christine is attracted to the Phantom because he's the right side of danger."

love never dies phantom opera?
ok so hears a thought ,so the phantom ends up running phantasma land or what ever its called his own freak sideshow,i think he would have a phobia about this type of setting if the original plot is anything to go by
what are your thoughts ?
Answer: Having seen both, I can say that he's not really running it, he's just manipulating the few things that pertain to him. It's all just part of a plot to get Christine to come back. Also, the setting isn't much creepier than his lair under the opera house. He sings a whole song about loving things creepy and mystical, so it seems pretty natural

Why do women find the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA romantic?
I want to know why women find the Phantom of the opera romantic, despite the fact that at the beginning of the movie (Im speaking about the movie specifically with gerard butler, but the actual phantom opera is good reference) the phantom is essentially a stalker and stalks the woman his entire life?
Arent women usually anti-stalker? How is that romantic in the slightest way?
Answer: First of all, Phantom of the opera (the movie) SUCKS ASS! Secondly, Phantom of the opera (the musical) is pretty good, but OVER-RATED!
Now that being said...
Women are very different from one another, yet at the same time we're similar. We look like a 'one-size-fits-all' sort of deal, but trust me, we aren't. Every woman exudes a different personality, emotion, logic, etc. Most women, however, are very insecure about themselves. This is something that Phantom of the opera sells to.
Here you have a pretty young lady who's been a background talent (chorus girl) in operas. She's shy, a little introverted, has only one good friend, a sad history; really she's kind of pitiful even though she has the potential to sing. So the phantom provides her singing lessons and builds her confidence. Why does he do this? Because she lacks confidence in herself, he's able to take advantage of her emotions easily. This is something predators do. But when she finally develops the confidence she once lacked, she attracts other men (including her childhood crush) and pursues him. So jealously enrages the phantom and he holds on to her tighter, which of course would make anyone try to free themselves even more. And then it just turns ugly for the phantom.
Do you see it? Women who are very insecure or lack confidence in themselves, love being told how wonderful and/or talented they are (even when they aren't). It's the attention. Some intentionally use men for it, some unintentionally. And when a woman's confidence develops, she has to move into a bigger shell.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to bash women or anything; especially since men guilty of this too. They just don't wear their emotions on their sleeve.

Answer: Well, the Archangel Raphael is the patron of music, and far before him, Apollo was the Greek god of music. Muses are the creatures that inspire artists, they are also talked about in mythology. And that's what I know on the subject. Sorry if it isn't enough.
Btw, my angel of music would look like Tarja Turunen.
