Varitek gets a day off every time Wakefield pitches, which is every 5 days. Do most catchers in the MLB get this much time off?
Answer: At least.
Most regular catchers actually catch 5 or at most 6 games a week. Varitek doesn't catch Wakefield well, as the Bosox found out in the early parts of last season. Mirabelli has that knack, so he starts when Wakefield pitches, and he starts other games as well. It's just that all other things being equal, Varitek doesn't start when Wakefield does.
Check the season stats of any MLB catcher. You'll be hard-pressed to find one who starts more than about 130 games/season.

Answer: Take Varitek, Beckett, and Bartlett. Beckett should get you a lot of points, and Bartlett's good for some steals. Varitek looks a little better at the plate this year but really he's just an afterthought in this trade. Posada's not going to hit that many HR's, even in the new stadium that is Coors Field East, and Jeter's true worth will never come through in a fantasy league. I realize Jeter's hitting with a surprising amount of power so far, but I wouldn't expect that to last.

Is JASON VARITEK slowing down offensively?
I like Jason varitek. I think defensively he still has it. And how he holds his team together is second to none. When he is up at the plate I always hope he does well. But lately it has not been pretty. DO you think (or maybe hope) this is just a slump, or do you believe he is slowing down? He is 36 and plays a ROUGH position! What are your thoughts.
Answer: It is not a slump. He is getting old. Most catchers start slowing down at around 35 or 36 years old.

Answer: its because in order to get the game out by the deadline time they had to go with what players were signed at whatever their deadline was and Manny and Tek both took forever signing their contracts... Manny missed some of spring training. The All Star team roster is last years AS team so they had that roster already.

Jason varitek is the catcher for the boston redsox but should i drop him for Kurt Suzuki, the catcher for oakland who is doing better?
Answer: Look. I thought the same thing the first two games after Varitek was 0 for 9 with 6K's, but I have held on to him and he is getting slightly better. I think there are alot of better, younger catchers out there, but Suzuki is not one of them. I think Suzuki is merely hit a hot streak, but eventually he will fizzle as well as his avg. I do not look forward for him to keep up what he's doing. I also do not think Varitek will have a super year, so if you could get maybe a JR Towles, Geovany Soto, or another catcher with some flare, then go for it. But Suzuki is not the answer. RR

Is JASON VARITEK a good defensive catcher?
I am personally a fan of Jason varitek. But he is getting old and is not doing so good on offense. In one game, they brought in Dusty Brown for a catcher defensive change. Is that because hes bad at defense?
Answer: His only problem is his arm nowadays. He still can frame pitches and all but his ability to catch runners is getting worse. Martinez isn't that good at catching runners either. Can't take all the blame on him though, if you noticed while Brad Penny pitched against the Rangers in a game this season, there was about 6 stolen bases or around there (early season game, rusty memory)

I am a girl and i am a catcher so i love Jason varitek and the red sox in all. I was looking at it on the computer and it said something about "...your son..." and on the regestration form it didnt have anything adout are you a boy or girl kind of thing. I really do not want to be the only girl there with a bunch of boys yet i really want to meet Jason varitek!!!
Answer: No. I'm sure it's for girls too. They just put 'boys' because there aren't too many girls that play baseball. Baseball is more of a boys thing. But I'm glad that you're a girl and you want to play.
