How much does it actually cost to have a baby?

My husband and I just stopped using birth control and are ready to begin this new adventure in our lives, trying to conceive our first child. Im wondering how much it REALLY costs to have a baby, for like the first year or so? Were always hearing horror stories of how expensive it is to have kids, but a lot of people have 1 income or low incomes and manage just fine. Were both young professionals with a good double income, so just wondering if well still be able to save and have little luxuries in life or if everything extra will go to the baby. Any actual numbers much appreciated (ie how much you spent in your first month, etc.) Thank you! Thanks all for the wonderful answers! To those who asked: I work in a corporate environment and were both covered with great health insurance. Our combined income is in the low six figures.
Answer: Cost of having a baby: Physical cost: $10K average without complications, $12K with c-section, NICU will cost about $10K/day -- this is without insurance If your child is in daycare, estimate about $200/week for infant care at a traditional daycare. ($800/month). Breast feeding is cheaper, but formula will cost about $16/can and you will go through about 1 can every week. Diapers... clothe diapers are cheapier, but you will go through about 1pk. of diapers every week (at least). Shampoos, special baby detergent, and lotions - $50/month Misc: toys, clothing, insurnace premium for dependant etc. - $100/month+ So, in a nutshell, you will probably spend about $1000-$1200 a month give or take with what you need, decide to provide, and items to use. Low income generally get gov. assistance or, typically qualify for medicaid (at least insurance & reduced daycare). I can tell you I was born in 1981 and my parents had a 1 income household and we lived nice, modest, but never went without or wanted for any thing lives and my father was the only earned an average of $54K a year. But we didnt have a huge fancy house or brand new cars every other year, etc. My parents were money conscious. My mom clipped coupons. They didnt buy just to buy, etc.though and they never tried 'keeping up with the Jones's'. My husband and I, when we went through adoption approval processes had to do a mock budget. Maybe your husband and you should do similar and see if you can honestly afford a baby. If you live paycheck to paycheck right now or, only have a couple hundred dollars left over at the end of the month, you should reevaluate how you spend money and cut costs before you have a child. Yes, they can be expensive, but no, you dont have to be six-figure earners to raise a kid. Plus, you get sizeable tax refunds ($5K per child is the current guaranteed rate at tax time) so you will make up some of your money at the end of the year which can be used to prepay daycare expenses or similar. But, I would make sure you have at a minimum of $1K extra money after bills etc. before deciding to take on having a child. Good luck!

Sims 3 World Adventures not loading!?

I downloaded sims 3 world adventures and it worked fine perfect amazing but thing i downloaded the update then i double click it pops up then it says" Your sims 3 base game is incomplete with the current sims 3 expansion pack. Please update your game via the game launcher." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? If anyone knows how to fix it or unistall please help.
Answer: You have to install the same update for both games. If you dont know how then just uninstall both and retry everything over again. this has been happenning to just about everyone who owns the sims 3 game on here....hmmm...fishy....i wonder why? from this it sounds like i would be better off playing the sims 2 and not buying the new one!!

What do you think of my story so far (updated version)?

My story is a fantasy/adventure story. I plan on writing over 200 pages. Tell me what you think of the story so far. I have no title yet, but Ill come up with one soon. Now Blairston was not your average town, by no means. It laid in a quaint valley on the outskirts of Philadelphia where the farms were plenty and where the weather was also pristine. The town had a population of about 3,000 and was quite renowned for its inviting and laid back atmosphere. Everybody kept to themselves and only got together during the annual Blairston Holiday Bash, in which 3 days were devoted to nonstop eating, drinking, singing, and dancing. What was different about Blairston then other towns was that a handful of the residents contained vast amounts of wealth, far beyond anyone’s imagination. For these select folks, life was carefree. The majority of the town consisted of rows of oddly shaped and almost identical townhomes in which most of the middle class folks resided. For the Buckingham family, Blairston was the ideal place to live in. Dean Buckingham, a lean, fairly tall, and extremely proper man, grew up in Blairston and eventually moved to Chicago when he was 20. Dean climbed the ranks of the business scene and built up a technology empire worth $500 million. He had more cars than you would know what to do with and enough watches for every day of the year. Chicago life was becoming a bit too hectic, so Dean decided to move back to Blairston with his wife and thought it would be the best location to raise his children. The Buckinghams moved to Lioncrest Estates, one of the most guard gated and elite communities in all of the North. The community was nestled up on a gently sloping hill and you could see all of Blairston from up there. Not quite where you expected a community of that prescence to be, right? Well, as you could imagine, the other residents of Blairston had mixed feelings about Lioncrest as well as heard many strange rumors about it. Some had heard of inexplicable forces that lurked beyond the large iron gates, magical forces at that. Others had heard of an underground world filled with magical creatures that lied beneath the gated community. But these were merely stories, nobody in the town had ever stepped foot in Lioncrest except for the dozen or so families who lived there. What the Buckinghams didn’t know, was that they were about to embark on a journey beyond their wildest dreams. “Luke, Emma, time for breakfast”, yelled Linda from the foyer. The kids, full of energy, came running down the grand double staircase and entered into the kitchen. “Mom, I don’t want to go to school,” professed Luke anxiously. “What if the other kids make fun of me and call me names?” Luke was very slender like his father and he had thick curly hair and wore large glasses that were undeniably too big for his head. “Now sweetie, I told you this before. Everything is going to be fine. If you have any problems you go straight to your teacher. You Understand?” said Linda. “Alright, lets go kids, off to school”, said Dean. The kids grabbed their lunchboxes and headed out through the front door kissing their mom as they left. “Have fun, and Luke, please watch out for your sister”, said Linda. The school, which was attended by both the towns kids and the the uppercrust kids from Lioncrest, was small and consisted of only 5 teachers. You could sense the history of the building as you walked in. The classrooms contained individual desks that dated back to the early 1900’s and the floors were made of old timber. Dean dropped off Luke and Emma and headed to his daily job as a volunteer at the nearby Medical Treament Center. Since he had more money than he knew what to do with, Dean didn’t have to work. But, being one who always has to be productive, Dean found something to do during the day. As Luke and Emma walked along the meandering brickstone path towards the school entrance, they could hear kids snickering behind them. “What’s a nerd like yourself doing in a town like this?” a 6th grader said while trying to hold back his laughter. “Go back to Lioncrest, you rich little momma’s boy!” Luke tried to contain himself. He did not want to show the bully that he was upset. So, he kept on walking and didn’t turn back. “Cheer up Luke”, said Emma in a high-pitched voice as she grabbed his hand. Boom! “What was that?” screamed Linda. The whole house shook for a few seconds. It was nothing like she had every experienced. She looked out the window and everything seemed perfectly fine. The crisp cold air gently pillowed into the room. The street was eerily quiet and no one else seemed to be awakened. “It must have been a transformer that exploded or something like that,” explained Dean in an overly tired manner. Dean, Linda’s husband, had moved the family to their new home about a week ago. They lived in a peaceful town by the name of Blairston. Now Blairston was not your average town, by no means.
