How was JOAN OF ARC a great FEMALE leader?
I have to do a research paper on Joan of arc, my thesis is that Female leaders can be as great or greater than male leaders? How could I prove this point using Joan of arc
Thanks God bless (:
Answer: She is one of my favorite characters in history. So many tales have been spun about her and her exploits which make it interesting to unravel your own version of who she was and what she did. Personally, she was a great lady who had to dress as a man to get so many to follow her orders and example. Some say it was the voices, which she heard, actually told her to cut her hair and dress as man.
Despite the obvious obstacles of being a woman, she was also a teenage woman who was to lead a French Army against the invading English and defeated them.
That should be more than enough to prove your point.

Answer: can you create a rider on horseback? Maybe find a child's horse and sit a Barbie type doll wearing a simple tunic (easy enough for you to make one with scrap of cloth) on top of the horse.
Now put some army men behind the rider and you have a fair representation of Joan of arc.

Why did Charles tell JOAN OF ARC to pretend to be the Maid or Lorraine?
I need to know. Charles VII told Joan of arc to pretend to be the Maid of Lorraine. Why?
Answer: There seems to be a slight misunderstanding here.
Charles did not tell Joan to pretend to be anything.
The nickname "The Maid of Orleans" was given to her following the relief of the siege of Orleans. The citizens of the town were so grateful for her help that they gave her a house in the town (one that would have been suitable for a respected member of the middle class) and, when the English captured her, raised more money for her ransom than any other town in France. The people themselves, to all intents and purposes, adopted her as a native, and she had the status of the town's favorite daughter.
Unfortunately, Charles VII did little or nothing to keep Joan from being sent to the stake. He even diverted the ransom money.
However, about 20 years after the fact, he used his influence to reopen her heresy case and saw the guilty verdict reversed.

How does the JOAN OF ARC inquisition compare to now?
im writing a compare and contrast essay on how the Joan of arc inquisition compares and contrasts to the inquisition now. can someone help me with comparisons. please please please, all logical answers are welcome.
Answer: In 1429, Joan was captured by John of Luxembourg, a captain of the Duke of Burgundy who although French was allied with the English.
King Charles VII of France could have exchanged a high ranking English prisoner for her but ungratefully he left her to her fate.
Joan was sold by Luxembourg to the English. The English, out of fear and shame, were determined to have her killed. They could not put her to death for having beaten them but they could get her sentenced to death as a witch and a heretic.
The English found the unscrupulous and ambitious Bishop of Beauvais (yes, a bad Catholic) who had sided with Burgundy with the English. A very biased and unfair trial by local tribunal followed (which was against Church law) and eventually she was burned at the stake.
Later, with the support of the Pope, her trial was appealed. The court determined the first trial was illegal and reversed and annulled the sentence. The first trial even ignored Joan's appeal to the Pope which was the right of every Catholic.
She was canonized a saint by the Catholic Church in 1909.

Why is JOAN OF ARC a well know historical character?
Joan of arc wasnt actually a heretic she was forced into proclaiming she was a heretic by the English House of Plantagenet. Joan was a devote christian but an enemy to the state of England and France could no longer afford her sporadic leadership over the French troops. So she got screwed over by both countries and was burned under the pretense of being a heretic.
Answer: She was a religious political tool. The reason why she was convicted of heresy was she left behind the female role of a functional society. In her death 2 nations weren't far from peace and women kept out of politics. The problem with too many women in politics isn't so much of oppression per se, it was to maintain the role and family values of a functioning healthy society. If you examine today's society, what you will see is we've abandoned church and state for corporation and state. The King of France and the King of England came together with an elusive plan to keep women in their role and position for the benefits of a healthy society during a crisis of 116 years of war. Men and women aren't equal. That is a naive concept. The problem was because of war, husbands became abusive towards there wives, which is predictable, and women started thinking they should be in charge instead. Joan of arc's true role was that her civil disobedience wouldn't be tolerated in either society and that's why she was crucified and called a witch. Chances are she wasn't actually burned at the stake. Some screams were probably heard over a wall and the people thought they burned her alive and she probably married another woman and lived in the countryside afterwards. The problem of homosexuality is it's a result of an unhealthy society. Wars can create social problems. What happens in someone's childhood is what makes them the adult they'll be. Basic psych. In a healthy family a mother punishes the daughter and she runs to the father for support. The father punishes the son and the son runs to the mother for support. They call this emotional transference. If this is to be switched, homosexuality comes as a result. If the father is off at war, the mother punishes the daughter, and runs to another women or child friend who's a girl, she'll have emotional transference and her sexual identity will be to who gave her compassion. If there is no emotional transference, she'll probably become bisexual. She was a patsy for Judeo-Christian values and many other religion's values. Because it worked, that's the only reason why history actually remembers her. Both Kings were under orders of the church to resolve the war, referred to as the 100 years' war. After all, both men were anointed by God. That's why they were kings. The major problems of the wars, were the feudal lords or shall we say today, corporations. So it kind of shows you, not much has changed in the human brain in thousands of years. They were trying to prevent Rome happening again. Because she endured what she did and kept the plan of the Kings, she was labeled a saint. What she was asked to do was something only a royal would do for the good of the people. Plus I'm pretty sure the Kings and the Knights Templer's got a kick of a woman running up and down the French coast with an army.

What are the important facts i should include?

"One life is all we have and we live it as we believe in living it. But to sacrifice what you are and to live without belief, that is a fate more terrible than dying." ~Joan of arc
Joan of arc, Fr. Jeanne D'Arc (zhän därk), 1412?-31, French saint and military leader of the fifteenth century, a national heroine who at the age of seventeen took up arms to establish the rightful king on the French throne; called the Maid of Orléans; daughter of a farmer of Domrémy on the border of Champagne and Lorraine.
Inspiration and Leadership:
At a young age she began to hear "voices"-those of St. Michael, St. Catherine, and St. Margaret. When she was about 16, the voices exhorted her to bear aid to the dauphin, later King Charles VII, then kept from the throne by the English in the Hundred Years War. Joan won the aid of Robert de Baudricourt, captain of the dauphin's forces in Vaucouleurs, in obtaining an interview with the dauphin. She made the journey in male attire, with six companions. Meeting the dauphin at Chinon castle, she conquered his skepticism as to her divine mission. She was examined by theologians at Poitiers, and afterward she was furnished with troops by Charles.
Her leadership provided spirit and morale more than military prowess. In May, 1429, she succeeded in raising the siege of Orléans, and in June she took other English posts on the Loire and defeated the English at Patay. After considerable persuasion the dauphin agreed to be crowned at Reims; Joan stood near him at his coronation. This was the pinnacle of her fortunes.
Capture and Martyrdom:
In Sept., 1429, Joan unsuccessfully besieged Paris. The following spring she went to relieve Compiègne, but she was captured by the Burgundians and sold to the English, who were eager to destroy her influence by putting her to death. Charles VII made no attempt to secure her freedom. In order to escape responsibility, the English turned her over to the ecclesiastical court at Rouen. She was tried for heresy and witchcraft before Pierre Cauchon and other French clerics who supported the English.
Probably her most serious crime was the claim of direct inspiration from God; in the eyes of the court this refusal to accept the church hierarchy constituted heresy. Throughout the lengthy trial and imprisonment she bravely fought her inquisitors. Only at the end of the trial, when Joan was sentenced to be turned over to a secular court, did she recant. She was condemned to life imprisonment. Shortly afterward, however, she retracted her abjuration, was turned over to the secular court as a relapsed heretic, and was burned at the stake (May 30, 1431) in Rouen. Charles VII made tardy recognition of her services by a rehabilitation trial in 1456 that annulled the proceedings of the original trial.
Joan was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920 (feast: May 30), which means she became a saint in the Roman Catholic Church. Her career lent itself to numerous legends, and she has been represented in many paintings and statues. In literature and music she appears notably, though not always accurately, in works by many eminent writers and composers.

Doing a paper on JOAN OF ARC and I am finding conflicting evidence?
Hello (:
I am doing a paper on Joan of arc. Specifically, I am doing it on her capture and trial. Some of the books and articles I am reading state that Charles VII did nothing to try and get her back once she was captured.
But a couple articles I have read state that Charles did indeed try and offer a ransom for her. Now I am confused--most of the authors in question seem to have some credentials to back them up and they agree on most things, but not on this. Any ideas?
Thank you!
Answer: History in general is full of contradicting views. Take any subject and you will find historians disagreeing with each other. The important thing is that all the sources you have used can be considered reliable, after that it is up to you to evaluate them and make up your own mind as to what seems to be the most plausible answer. Why not present both arguments, argue for and against for all of them and then give your own opinion.
