What PRESIDENTS in the 19th and 20th century have expanded the powers of the office?
I know Andrew Jackson greatly influenced the power of the Presidency. What other Presidents have expanded powers in the 19th and 20th century? What and how did they do it?
Answer: Lincoln set the precedent (shamelessly and enthusiastically cited over and over by G.W. Bush) that a wartime President can pretty much ignore Congress and the law in order to provide for the the national defense. No president before or since has had the guts to jail American citizens by the hundreds with no charges, no access to lawyers, and no seeing the light of day. Habeas corpus? Lincoln had a war to manage, a rebellion where friend and enemy looked awfully similar, and he wasn't about to let a little thing like the law make the Union any less safe.
After Lincoln, Presidents sort of let Congress take the lead, and not much happened until my man Teddy Roosevelt came along. TR believed that the ability of the president to appeal directly to the people, to be the spokesperson of the people to the government (the so-called "bully pulpit") was the office's greatest strength, and he relentlessly attacked corruption, monopolistic corporations, and abusive company management. TR was famous for speaking to the people and arousing public sentiment on his side...dude took a would-be assassin's bullet one morning and made a speech that afternoon with a bandage on his side and the bullet still in him. I remain totally a fan.
TR's cousin Franklin Delano Roosevelt expanded the power of the executive branch by expanding the size of government during the Great Depression, and by refusing to step aside as tradition dictated at the end of his second term. Also a wartime president, FDR was able to ignore his critics and forge ahead with many of his programs thanks to the overwhelming public support for the war.
Lyndon Johnson did his part to strengthen the executive by wildly escalating the American military presence in Vietnam, thus entangling the country further in an undeclared war. The president is the commander-in-chief of the military, but only Congress has the power to declare war, according to the Constitution...but hey, I guess you can still send young men (and of course, women nowadays) off to die without Congressional action if you don't call it a "war."
Richard Nixon had an unusual take on Presidential power: When cornered by David Frost in the famous interview, he made the claim that anything the president does cannot be illegal, simply because the president is doing it. I seem to recall that Tricky Dick's presidency ended badly.
GW Bush built on the Lincoln and Nixon legacy (a very strange combination, but follow me on this) by claiming that he was "the decider", that he had to power to commit US troops to a costly and poorly-planned war and then, since we were at war, he then had nigh-unlimited powers to incarcerate and torture unlawful combatants in the name of national security. This, his lawyers assured him, was perfectly legal for a "wartime president." History will have to decide that one...as is true for all of us, our judges have not yet been born.
I hope that helped!

How does PRESIDENTS work in a football club?
I mean what do they do for the club? Like many people said that if a rich Presidents comes and takes over the club then the club is rich and have more money. So that means Presidents put their own money for the club?
Answer: Exactly. They usually promise that they're going to invest their own money on players, the stadium, the training facilities etc. E.g. Sheikh Mansour at Manchester City, he's invested around £750 million in Man City. Some Presidents buy the club solely to make profits, by selling off players etc, like Alan Sugar at Tottenham, while others like Roman Abrahamovich at Chelsea, just throw their money at the club, almost treating it like a plaything. So there's both advantages and disadvantages of having a rich president.

PRESIDENTS?
how is a good way to memorize all the Presidents?
i was thinking like to memorize a song, like on nickalodeon
thats a good way but i need know all of them first
think any of you could help?
Answer: Believe it or not, I did exactly that once.
I was in Cub Scouts (a LONNNNG TIME AGO)
and for a show for the parents our pack
did a Presidents Song.
The words were mostly just the names,
sometimes both, sometimes just the last name,
and just a simple little la-di-da tune.
It worked - I can still sing that song --
but it sounds better in my head than out loud.
So yeah, that's a great method.
Just write down the names, fit them to a tune
which you make up, or use an
existing tune.
Something like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
or Old MacDonald would probably work,
and you'll have that list memorized in no time.
Here are some pages with lists of Presidents:

The song "California Here I Come" is pretty versatile:

PRESIDENTS Day: A look at Obama so far
Its Presidents Day, and on "CBS This Morning" presidential historians Doris Kearns Goodwin and Douglas Brinkley, a CBS News consultant, took a look back at some of the Presidents, their influence and some of their history-making moments.
How many PRESIDENTS besides Obama have admitted to committing a felony?
Obama admitted to possession of Cocaine in writing something no other president has admitted.
Are there any other Presidents in history that have admitted to a felony?
When did Bush admit to using drugs? Never?
One cannot use a substance without possesing it.
Answer: Who cares? We already knew he was a coke addict, so he couldn't lie about that. He did lie about where he was born. He said Hawaii, yet he has no birth certificate. Even the state of Hawaii doesn't recognize his certificate of live birth as legitimate.
He also lied about giving people tax cuts. I knew he was lying, but many believed him I guess. He's lying about taking over GM.
Now that I think about it, admitting to being a coke addict was the only time he ever told the truth.
Obama will be famous for being the only president to cause 2 million jobs to be lost in just 5 months.

How many minority PRESIDENTS have there been in the US?
Not like, black Presidents. Presidents who have been elected to office, despite not having a majority of votes, because of the electoral college.
Yes, I am f*n serious. And panurge, what are you talking about? Are you saying the Bush election was the most fair election? Or the Obama one? Who are you presuming is my guy/gal?
Im definitely going to say that 2008 was one of the fairest elections ever. He won by a huge margin. There may have been corruption, but it didnt really change much.
And what was that about the judges, courthouses, cushy govt jobs?
Answer: I believe 2?
Ah, found it:
"The elections of 1876, 1888 and 2000 produced an Electoral College winner who did not receive the plurality of the nationwide popular vote. In 1824, there were six states in which electors were legislatively appointed rather than being popularly elected, so the true national popular vote is uncertain. When no candidate received a majority of electoral votes in 1824, the election was decided by the House of Representatives and thus could be considered distinct from the latter three elections in which all of the states had popular selection of electors.[46] Opponents of the Electoral College claim that such outcomes do not logically follow the normative concept of how a democratic system should function."

How would you rate female PRESIDENTS throughout history?
Iceland has had a female president. Are you aware of any other countries that have had female Presidents? If you wish you may include female prime ministers.
How would you rate female rulers throughout history? If you wish you can include Presidents, prime ministers and queens. Do women as rulers have a common characteristic or thread that distinguishs them from male rulers? Overall how would you rate female rulers compared to male rulers?
Answer: Ireland's current president is a woman. In the 1980's, the British Prime Minister was a woman. Golda Meier was prime minister of Israel in the 1970's. Indira Ghandi was Prime Minister of India for quite some time as well.
The only "common characteristic" that differentiates female rulers from male rulers is...they're women instead of men. Other than that, each one is an individual and each did things in her own way.

How about having 3 PRESIDENTS elected for the same term and getting rid of the vice-president title ?
This way, if a dud or lemon president is elected, such as in this current term, there will be 2 more with equal policy-making and veto influence. I get that the president is not an ultimate authority due to checks and balances that are absolutely necessary, but having 3 Presidents would allow for a "majority" of 2 out of 3 having to veto a bill, etc, etc. Plus (again) it helps if one is incompetent or inexperienced such as Obummer.
Answer: Errr....no.

What are some moderate PRESIDENTS or a website that will show presidential ideology?
I have looked all over the internet trying to find a list of Presidents that are moderate. I even looked for a list of Presidents that are liberal or conservative and i could not find anything. If there is a website out there that has a list of all of the Presidents and it shows what their political ideology is that would be great.
Answer: Defining a moderate is largely in the eye of the beholder. I suppose Eisenhower is considered to have been a centrist by nearly everyone, as far as I know. Other possible examples include Clinton, Bush I, Carter, Ford, Nixon, and Truman, but you'll find many people who will vehemently object to the characterization of one or more of those Presidents as moderate.
As for a website, Wikipedia might be one place to start. They usually describe each president thoroughly, and for many politicians there is a separate page devoted to listing his or her political positions.
Keep in mind that a president's "ideology" may differ from how that president actually governs while in office. Jefferson, for example, is famous for the line "That government is best which governs least," but as a president, he didn't exactly follow that philosophy.
