What are the names of the songs from Into the Wild that Kristen Stewart (Tracey T) performs in SLAB CITY?

Answer: I've only learned the name of the duet she does with Supertramp/McCandless, which is "Angel from Montgomery." It's not on the soundtrack (don't know the name of the other song she sings solo), but I found a great live version of the song performed by Bonnie Raitt and John Prine. If you learn the other name, let me know! Wait -- just found reference to the song she sang solo. It's called "Tracy's Song" (after her character's name) and was supposedly written by Kristen Stewart herself and a David Baerwald, but I don't think it's available anywhere for download. I found another folk song titled "Tracy's Song" on iTunes from 2000 by a folk singer named Jenn August, but frankly I can't tell if it's the same song (guessing not if the movie credits it to Stewart and Baerwald), but it's still nice in itself.

Answer: Slab city! I don't even think it sounds like a nice place to visit, much less live there! Never heard of it! I been livin' in these parts since 1972! I am sure Obamanation Stimulus will seep in there too! There won't be any "slabs" left! lol!

Answer: A section of the north shore in Hawaii near Waialua. Off the beaten track and notorious for the Speed freaks in the area. It used to be a big sugar cane area and, if you can call anything on Hawaii a slum, this is one of those areas that all the workers used to live in. the real estate is growing in value and It can be dangerous but is generally OK.

How do I detect where water is coming from up through a cement slab home.?

Water is coming up through the floor in the middle of our home. When I turn on a thermostat to the section of the house that has baseboard, the water dries up. I cannot understand why or where the water is coming from. Had a plumber who ruled out the pipes running through the slab, also had the DPW to rule out city pipes.

Anything like SLAB CITY near Portland?

Answer: No, not anymore. Woodburn used to have squatters in fields west of I-5, but that's all been industrialized since the 1980s. There are a surprising number of people camping in the southern portions of Mount Hood National Forest even in winter. I suspect most are people practicing low cost living. As long as you move at least every 14 days, it is legal. Another, more Portland, variation is Dignity Village, an encampment for homeless people near Marine Drive. Building permit needed and city statue says only contractors can do the work? I cannot do the work.?

Last month I payed Home Dept $8300 for delivery,materials and labor for a laminate floor installation on about 1000 sq. ft. of my condo in Aventura,Fl. To begin, my condo association directs me to the city to get abuilding permit, right, I go to the City Hall and pick up an application.I need 2 copies of floor plans, a slab thickness survey and name, address ect.ect. and get it all notorized. Ok theres also space for the installation companys info, I call the installation Co. Home Depot has on my contract/invoise. I asked at the time of paying was there any additional costs? On the strength of HD, as a Co. I felt secure paying 100% up front to. This is how they sold it "we guarantee this,that ect. ect." well to make the point, I cannot get a permit now unless I pay $500 to the contractor, which aprox. $100 is for permit. $400 for thier signature and they are paid well for the work, which I already paid. Id take my money back but I do need the floor and theyd charge 15% restock.
Answer: most county's in florida do allow the owner to do work himself. call the building department and ask them if you can pull an owner permit for the work.

can I pour a new slab over an existing concrete slab if I add enough gravel base?

I have a over 100 year old brick garage with a sucken and broken garage floor. Since the garage was installed the city raised the alley to add sewers! I have over ten feet of ceiling and would like the new slab to to be the same grade as the alley. Can add I add 6" of gravel and at least 4 " of concrete over the slab?
Answer: I would suggest using 6" of compacted sand and 4' of concrete. It is necessary to have the original concrete floor broken if not it should be broken to allow any trapped moisture to drain to the sub grade under the original floor. This is especially important if you live in an area where the ground freezes in the winter. A plate compactor should be used to compact the sand and using water for consolidation is not recommended or necessary. Some other things to consider is the conditions under which the concrete will be installed. For example; the perimeter of the slab should not be cast against the surrounding brick wall or expansion and contraction of the new slab will ultimately push the brick out. Use a fibrous asphaltic expansion joint material, or other available concrete expansion joint material, around the complete perimeter to avoid this issue. It is well known that concrete cracks so make certain that tooled joints are installed at least on 10' centers in all directions to accommodate the cracks. The apron at the entry should also be made as a separate concrete placement from the garage floor its self. This is especially true where frost heave will occur, otherwise you will get a crack across your doorway. You can caulk this joint if water is an issue. (It would be best if the garage floor was placed first and expansion joint material is used between the floor and the apron slab, then cut out 1/2" to 3/4" of expansion joint material and install a butyl rubber caulk to waterproof the joint after the concrete has cured for 28 days.) To minimize frost heave at the door and allow the door to shut tight in freezing weather, turn the slab down across the door width. Did a trench in the sand fill all the way (6") to the old slab. The beam effect created will decrease and possibly eliminate any heaving action at the door. a few pieces of rebar in the turned down slab will also assist. No rebars, use old metal posts or similar reinforcing. If there are any man doors that swing out you should not have any conflicts with the floor. If they swing in depress the slab enough to get clearance. The thickness could also be reduced at the man doors if heavy traffic will not been on that part of the slab. At the main entry door your overhead clearance will be reduced by 10" if that is adequate you have no problems. If more clearance is needed depress the slab, retain thickness, and use curbs at the entry apron to control water. Sorry about the length, but you asked.

I am going to be visiting Slab city In Ca soon and I have read quite a bit about it online but one thing I dont understand. It seems to be a "free town" but does law enforcment have jurisdiction there? So if anyone has been there or even better lives there please let me know and also tell me of your experience there. Answer: It's in Imperial County so, of course, the Imperial County Sheriff has "jurisdiction" there, but don't expect to see a Sheriff's deputy walking a beat there.

Answer: If it's existing concrete, use a drop in anchor. They come in various diameters. The anchor drops in a drilled hole (you will have to do this yourself). Drop the anchor in and set the plate on top. You will have to drill the hole in the plate also. As you screw the recommend bolt length in, the anchor will expand and hold down your plate. Find a local fastener store such as Fastenal. They can sell you the proper equipment. Also look on their web site. www.fastenal.com All the information about these anchors will be there. Stupid question maybe, but I would like to know if it is possible to grow grass over a concrete slab? Details: I live in Baltimore City and have a very tiny and uninspiring concrete slab patio (enclosed by a fence) behind my rowhome. The concrete slab has a concrete border approximately 7 inches higher than the slab itself. Note: Its not feasible/affordable to break up the concrete and start anew. Just wondering if there is a way to put down a shallow amount of soil and roll sod grass over it? Is artificial grass my only option?
Answer: of course you can! Just throw about 4 inches of dirt on top of it. If you put sod, just water roll it on and water it about 2-3 times a day for about two weeks. If you put seed , put it down ,put some seed cover and water it for 3 times a day for about five minutes each time..then water once after the seed comes out
