Do you think maybe ESPN is trying to make Jeremy Lin into a star a little too fast?
For instance, in the same way the UFC pushed Rampage Jackson by rushing him into fights sooner than he was ready for them? I do understand thats what ESPN is supposed to do but am I the only one thinking that maybe this is happening a little too fast?
Answer: Well Jeremy Lin has the skill to back up all the hype. I mean, he has 109 points in the first four starts of his career. That's the most in NBA history. NBA HISTORY. That definitely says something, and I think this kid has the potential to do really well in this league.

What do you think of Jeremy Lins recent play?
He is now the third Knicks player with the most 25 points per game. He has scored 25 then 28 back to back. With Carmelo and Stoudamire scoring over 20, the Knicks actually have a higher losing streak. When he scores 20 or more, they are undefeated. He is also the very first Asian American (Chinese descent) to play in the NBA. and to top it all he is also a Harvard graduate so he is an intelligent guy.
There have been 10 Asian NBA players so far (2 Japanese, 1 Korean, 7 Chinese), and this is expected to grow. Can Jeremy Lin, a point guard who had 28 points, 8 assist, and 2 steals today influence the growth of more Asians to play basketball?
http://espn.go.com/newyork/nba/recap?gameId=320206018
Answer: Two people with brand new accounts, one with fluff & other with the absurd, makes me doubt the rationale behind this question. However, I like the sport so I'll take the bait.
His play: He's been a great spark for the Knicks the last two games and because of that their season could potentially be salvaged. While the Yankees and Giants are darlings of N.Y., people outside often forget that basketball is the athletic lifeblood of the city. The immense pressure building due to the Knicks failure to build off last season gave me the impression that team was getting ready to collapse. Jeremy Lin is a real p.g. in that he understands what he needs to do to get people involved at places on the court they can be effective. Other than Mike Bibby (whos been a physically shot player for years) everyone they trotted out doesn't have that grasp of the position. While they are individually more talented than Lin, they make the coexistence of Melo & Amare far more difficult.
In terms of his play, lets not forget this isn't the first action he has seen for the Knicks and he didn't exactly light up the world in those games. I know he isn't a 20 pts per game player and I doubt that he has the ability to be a double digit assist guy, but on a team that only needs a facilitator on offense I believe he can be a nice role player in limited action.
Impact on Asians in the sport:
I'm assuming you are talking about foreign players, because Asian-Americans already play the sport in the U.S. they simply have not made it to the NBA. In terms of foreign players I don't believe he will have much impact because his style of play is distinctly American and I don't believe he will be a high impact player on the court as Yao was.
The main reason why Asians will have a tough time having a substantial % of players in the NBA is the large number of athletes and fierce competitive environment for players from 6'0"- 6'8" in America. This is why most NBA foreign players are power forwards or centers despite the fact that college basketball has used this talent to play all positions for over thirty years.

Are we seriously gonna keep asking Jeremy Lin question all day?
Everybody saw what he did, do we need to break it down with a microscope what he does. The man hit a game winner what else needs to be said? Lin is a stud, a phenom even........I have absolutely no problem unlike Mayweather giving Lin his proper due, Im loving the fact that an Asian guy is blowing up in the NBA (Im a black man btw) it makes it even more exciting and more global and the cherry on the cake is that Lin is humble which I love he doesnt let it go to his head. Again Im loving Lin but ESPN is slow on good sport news and are blowing the Lin thing to stratospheric heights.
Its too soon to say hes better than Yao but it was about time we get an Asian star (hopefully) in the NBA we got Dirk, Pau, Parker etc from Europe, Ginobili, Varejao, Scola from South America, Yao and Lin (I know hes born here but of Asian parents) from Asia, Mutombo, Olajuwon from Africa, Bogut from Australia etc

ESPN: Network of Bigots?
The network over-publicizes black athletes who run afoul of the law and now, in the aftermath of a 9-turnover fiasco that ended the Knicks winning streak, has run a headline referring to Jeremy Lin -- formerly ESPNs feel-good story of the month -- as a "Chink In The Armor" of the team.
This is a network that floods the airwaves with pompous, mindless blowhards who contribute nothing useful to the sporting public or our society as a whole. Is it time to ignore this collection of self-important jackasses and tune in elsewhere to get our daily sports fix?
