How do you think PAUL WILLIAMS would do?

How do you think Paul williams would match up against the elite in the welterweight division right now such as mayweather, mosely, pac man, berto, cotto, ect...do you think they would stand a chance? Or would he get worked? Just curious what everyone thinks because he recently stated that he would have no problem fighting at 147 still, and he actually prefers fighting at that weight... I honestly think hed give all these guys a hard time in the ring.
Answer: Mayweather vs Williams - Mayweather UD12. For a preview of this potential near-future fight watch Leonard Vs Hearns. Very similar match-up. Leonard maybe hada little more power than Floyd does thus the UD12. Floyd is too quick to get caught by Williams and too smart to try to bang with him. Williams would have his moments, maybe steal a few rounds and definitely wouldn't embarass himself but Floyd would win. If the fight is fought in 3 or 4 years - probably not a possibility unless Williams suffers a KO defeat or two and Floyd becomes desparate for cash - I would expect Williams to probably win. Floyd might have a couple or few good fights left in him but is too smart to go beyond that. Everyone's career has an expiration date. Pacquiao vs Williams - Williams WTKO11. Williams is way too big for Pac. Pac would not be able to back Williams up for too long, if at all. I haven't the greatest confidence in Pac's ability to fight while backing up. Williams would stalk him and get to him eventually, chopping the brave Pac down several times before the ref would rescue him (sorry PacMan fans). Berto vs Williams - Williams UD12. Berto, although undefeated, is relatively untested. Can you recognize more than a few of his opponents? Most people would have difficulty beyond Collazo and Forbes. Williams is naturally bigger and stronger. I would even stick my neck out to say that Berto could suffer the first KO of his career if they met but I haven't seen enough of Berto to say he has a weak chin. I have seen enough of Williams to see that he has good power. Cotto vs Williams - Williams WKO6. If Pac, a naturally smaller man than Williams, could walk through Cotto's bombs and bust him up what do you think Williams would do? I think Cotto will go the way of Vargas after the Trinidad KO, Jones Jr after the Tarver KO and Taylor after the Pavlik KO. Some fighters are never the same after devastating KO losses. Unfortunately - because he is such an exciting fighter and has tremendous heart - Cotto's future success will be limited. As good as he was I don't think he could have beaten Williams before his KO losses. The match-up is terrible for Cotto. Williams is too quick and skilled a boxer to let Cotto dictate the fight that would enable him to win. Jab, jab, jab cross, jab straight right. Overhand left to the temple, Cotto stumbles, gets up. Repeat steps 1-8, the ref stops it. Williams is a difficult welterweight. He is over 6'1" tall with a heavyweight reach - an incredible 82!" He has only 1 defeat, which he avenged with a KO victory soon after. He has defeated sluggers - like Margarito - and slick boxers - like Wright - without much difficulty. He has good power - his KO% is 69% He has a good jab, good movement and good defense. He is only 28 and may not have reached his prime yet. The problem, I would guess, that he is having presently is getting good fights made. Who would want to face him? Although I believe Mayweather would beat him now, if they fought, I think Williams would be more dangerous than Pacquiao. Williams is a naturally larger man and is able to fight at any weight between welter and middleweight without sacrificing much speed or power. I think he might find his nitch at middleweight although I think the match-ups are more to his advantage at welter and jr middle. The Mosley Williams match-up would be interesting if made soon. I hate to say it but I would have to place my money on Williams in that one also, which is no slight at Mosley. I just think Williams could match him with speed and probably win a close match, maybe SD12. If we were talking about a prime Mosley here the SD might go the other way, as Shane's speed might even confound Williams but we're not and Mosley is a half-step slower now (still fast enough to beat most of the welter top 10, just most likely not Floyd or Williams). Good damn question. I think Williams is going to make some real noise over the next couple years and open up a few eyes - or at least some nasty cuts under and over some of his opponents eyes.

Id have to say yes. Paul may have trouble getting down to 147, but Id be won over completely if Berto were to beat a guy like Williams who can punch you from a 3rd row seat. What if this were to happen? Would Pacquiao or Floyd be obligated to take on Berto then? Nobody wanted to fight Williams when he was a welterweight, so what would be the fate of the young lion who beat a guy nobody wanted to fight?

Sergio Martinez basically laid out the blue print of how to beat PAUL WILLIAMS?

Paul williams basically is composed of lenght and stamina.He throws in bunches and for a tall fella thats crazy but hes definitely hittable and Martinez proved that the last time they fought and last saturday Cintron was connecting his punches when they fought but unfortunately their fight was halted early due to injuries.
Answer: I wouldn't say that because you can't really say that someone laid out the blueprint on how to beat someone else when they didn't actually beat them. Carlos Quintana laid out the blueprint on how to beat Paul williams because he is the only person so far to actually beat Williams. Sergio Martinez fought well and was following that blueprint at the beginning of their fight together but he got overconfident and began trying to outfight Williams and that was his undoing. For all of his size and reach advantages, Williams does not fight tall, instead he overwhelms his opponents with volume punching, pressure and his surprising ability to be able to go toe to toe and get the better of most exchanges- Max Kellerman called Williams a "pitbull" in the Martinez fight and that was an accurate comparison of the way that Williams fights. Quintana beat Williams by staying poised, not losing his cool and outboxing Williams with his slick southpaw style, his effective movement, and his counterpunching abilities which nullified Williams' volume punching. Martinez had all the tools to beat Williams because he is in essence a "better version" of Quintana but as previously stated, he made the decision to try and outfight Williams in the mid rounds and that is when Williams separated himself from Martinez by overwhelming and outworking him proving that Martinez may be the better "boxer" but he was the better "fighter". Martinez caught a second wind in the late rounds but Williams still fought his heart out and depending on how you scored the late rounds, that determines who you had winning the fight. Kermit Cintron was fighting decently against Williams but I thought at the time the injury occurred, Williams was starting to find his rhythm and it looked to me that Williams was on the verge of taking control of the fight but you never truly know what would have happened if the fight continued because it was just starting to heat up but those kinds of things happen in the sport of boxing from time to time.

How Can Winky Wright Beat PAUL WILLIAMS?

I know that Carlos Quintana won a decision vs Paul williams so Winky can too he is a better pure boxer. What can Winky Wright do to win a decision vs Williams?
Answer: I don't think this one is possible. I think this is Wright cashing in on one last paycheck before retirement. He is in his late thirties and hasn't fought for almost a year. His only advantage was using his long arms and stiff jab to keep opponents off him and score points but Williams has that same advantage with a long reach himself. Williams is also a harder hitter with more knockouts. Williams is also much younger and hungrier looking to prove himself in a third weight class. Quintana only beat Williams because he took him lightly and didn't prepare properly. But look at what happened in the rematch between them, first round knockout. I would bet my house on Williams and would be very impressed if an old and past his prime Wright fighting without his reach advantage for the first time could beat him.

Why do people think PAUL WILLIAMS is a slick boxer?

When he is any thing but, look at his fights Martinez, Quintana, Margarito and even Citron. The guy is very hittable. I want to know from you, do you think Paul williams is slick?
Answer: The people who think that he is a slick boxer are the same people who have never seen a slick boxer in their lives, and only believe what they hear from others, frankly. Williams has a reputation of being one of the most-avoided boxers in this current era. Yet, for the life of me, I cannot see why. Sure, he is a VERY TALL junior middleweight with an 82 inch reach, but he has no idea of what defense is, and even though his power is solid, it's not what one would expect from a man with his height and reach. Sergio Martinez, one of the slickest fighters in all of boxing, hit him seemingly at will, and nearly KO'd Williams in the first round. Williams is a sucker for a straight left hand. Martinez couldn't miss with it if he tried. It is this reason why I feel a fight between he and Manny Pacquiao would be a lot closer than most people believe. People only look at Williams' height and reach and feel that he'd crush Manny, but I tend to digress. Pacquiao, with his heavyweight power would probably KO Williams. Kermit Contron was winning every round on the score cards against Williams before that strange dive out of the ring. Carlos Quintana tied him in knots before Williams got him in a rematch. Williams is a sitting duck. He IS an exciting fighter, however, because of his style. But I don't understand why he is so avoided. Great question.

How come some boxers get to wear their shorts and pads so high, like PAUL WILLIAMS?

its like cheating? and they wear it so it covers their sides to. The best way to beat a guy like Paul williams would be to his body, take advantage of his small torso, thats why he wears his pads and shorts like that, its obvious. Who knows the rules?
Answer: Very good question. I thought the same thing about Edwin Valero. He wore his kidney pads up to his ribs. There's no way he should have been able to get away with that for 27 professional fights. The opponent's trainer should bring issues like this up before the fight, maybe while fighters are having their hands wrapped. The refs are missing these things for some reason, or maybe the rule is written rather vaguely or something.

Answer: Williams needs a new trainer, plain and simple. Peterson seems like a nice enough fellow, but he's holding Paul back imo. It's not just learning to use his height and reach offensively, his defense is awful. Quintana landed overhand left after overhand left, Cintron landed straight right hand after straight right hand. Eating punches every single fight is not doing this guy any good. I found it curious the other day when Peterson said Paul's only got two more fights in him. If that's the case, no way we see him reach his full potential. What a shame.

Answer: Khan actually takes advantage of his reach, he has much quicker hands than P-Will and doesn't really fight "little" the way a long, rangy Williams does (which makes NO sense). Khan uses his talents the way any skilled fighter should, and he wins nowadays because of it. It's like in the past when he would jab and not be aggressive. This is a completely different Khan than the guy who got dropped in one round a few years ago.

Answer: Paul has a decent chin for Mayweather to destroy. Paul isn't as defensive and doesn't have enough power for Mayweather. I would definitely watch the fight... but there isn't a fighter I would bet my money on, beating Mayweather. If Mayweather beats Williams and Cotto people will hype up another challenger to face Mayweather. Let him retire as one of the Top 10 All-Time greatest P4P fighters in the world.

Williams may have lost but thats just one loss and he has gotten better. He has beat margarito who a lot of boxers didnt want to fight but you know hes a cheater.
Answer: Mayweather, Pacquiao, Sugar Shane are tops in Welterweight right now. I don't know that Williams will go back there, maybe he shouldn't. He's so tall eventually it's gonna be hard for him to make that weight and be effective. Going back and forth from Welter to Middle weight will take it's toll after a while. I don't think he wants anything to do with the top 3 anyway!
