What is the Meaning of BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY?
Freddie Mercury wrote this song, Bohemian rhapsody.. a lot of people think he wrote it about coming out of the closet to his mother but i highly doubt it.. Queen knows the secret to this song but what is it really?
Answer: As what Brian stated in an interview-------"What is Bohemian rhapsody about, well I don't think we'll ever know and if I knew I probably wouldn't want to tell you anyway, because I certainly don't tell people what our songs are about. I find that it destroys them in a way because the great thing about about a great song is that you relate it to your own personal experiences in your own life. I think that Freddie was certainly battling with problems in his personal life, which he might have decided to put into the song himself. He was certainly looking at re-creating himself. I think it's best to leave it with a question mark in the air."

As part of this concert evening, my band are planning on playing Bohemian rhapsody, but i was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to do the choir bit in the middle, as i know that queen used a tape for that.

Answer: I've seen tribute bands actually sing the middle operatic section, pretty nicely too. If all the members of the band can sing well then you could probably pull it off with a lot of practice, although it would obviously be a lot less of a "big" sound since the actual song has the voices layered over each other many times. If all else fails you can probably just play that part of the studio version like the band themselves did, or record it yourselves with multi-layering etc.

How can I recreate the BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY Pose?
I am doing an art project, with four teachers recreating the iconic "opera pose" adopted by Queen at the beginning of the video of "Bohemian rhapsody." How can I recreate that shot? What tools should I use? Any help would be appreciated. x
Answer: Hello,
There are a couple of ways to do this. I'll detail two for you, neither of which is super easy- the original shot is a very controlled studio photograph- but both of which are certainly doable.
Way #1.
------------
The first way I'll suggest is to use a single, directional, "bare" light at a nearly 90 degree angle above the subjects and use Photoshop to emphasize the effect. Here are the basic steps:
A. Use a bright light hung nearly directly above your subjects for long, deep shadows.
*** Helpful shooting hint 1: Set up outside at night and far enough away from any objects to avoid light bleedover.
*** Helpful shooting hint 2: Use 3 stools for the left, right and top center subjects to get them into the correct pose without them having to stoop over too much. This can fatigue your subjects quickly.
B. Take many versions of the shot (as any pro would do) with the light in slightly different positions. This will ensure that you have at least one nice, useable photo where everyone has their eyes open and that has lighting you can work with.
C. Open the digital image in Photoshop - any version that has "Adjustment Layers" will do.
D. Create a "Curves" adjustment layer (Curves is a tool that controls brightness throughout a photograph) by clicking on the black/white split circle below your layers in the layer palette.
E. When the Curves adjustment layer opens, use your mouse to click on the center of the diagonal line running across the Curves grid and drag it downwards until the photo gets quite dark - too dark by far in the faces, but nice and deep elsewhere, like the original shot.
F. Click "Ok" to save the Curves adjustment layer.
G. Select a large, soft paintbrush (the "B" key on the keyboard will select the brush for you) and make sure that the foreground paint color is black.
H. Use the brush to paint over the faces and hands of your subject. If all goes well, you should see the original luminosity (you know - the brightness) of the subjects come back just in those areas. The resulting effect should provide a reasonable facsimile of the reference photo.
Way #2.
------------
The harder (more equipment-dependent) way is likely the way that the original photo was taken - using four (or maybe 5, for the hands) "grids" (spotlight modifiers) on strobes (flashes).

More realistically, you could try to use a snoot. A snoot is basically a light modifier that very finely concentrates light on a subject.

The more acute the angle of light is from the top, the deeper your shadows will be - as in the Queen shot.
You could theoretically make snoots from scratch by rolling a heat resistant material into a cone and taping it to what photographers call "continuous" lights and everyone else calls "regular" lights. Beware though - when you snoot a 100+ watt lightbulb, it can get very, very hot. Use good judgement here.

What does it mean in BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY when Queen refers to Galileo?
For world history class I had to pick a song that refers to something in history. In Bohemian rhapsody Queen says:

Answer: Ever hear of he who laughs last laughs best? Well, Freddie is still laughing. He would get the biggest kick out of how people have dissected and tried to determine what Bohemian rhapsody means. Once when Freddie was asked about it he called it "fluff" and "disposable pop". Freddie wanted to write a song with an operatic feel and that is just what he did. The "opera section" as Freddie called it was just a bunch of nonsense. As Freddie was writing it he would say, "Let's throw a few more "Galileo's" here". It was all in fun and made for some great harmonies. A lot of what Freddie wrote was very tongue in cheek. The actual base of the song, however, is about human struggle. Struggle with good and evil? Struggle with coming of age? Struggle with coming out of the closet? No one knows but Freddie.

Answer: Absolutely right. In 1215 King John signed a decree making it illegal for anyone to play any of Queens Greatest Hits (vol 1) whilst performing as a one man band. Originally the death penalty applied but nowadays you can expect 30 hours community service. (Just don't try to break free.)

Do you think BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY would be a good song for Rock Band downloadable content?
Okay, granted up until the end of the song there isnt much guitar or drums, but this song is one of the best and well known songs ever. Who would not wanna try and sing the vocals, and nail that sweet guitar solo? I wish somehow they come across in providing this song. Other queen songs would be cool too, but were talking about "Bohemian rhapsody" how can you not rock out when you hear it? What do you guys think?
