Basketball: Do you see the Lakers trading to get a point guard near the trade deadline?

BQ- Do you think that Gasol or Bynum will be traded? BQ2- Which game are you more hyped up to see tonight: Heat vs. Knicks or Lakers vs. Thunder? For me its the Lakers game. I see them winning by at least four, but its going to be tough since the Lakers are not that good on the road this year. Is it a road game for the Knicks or not?
Answer: I am a Laker fan, so that game is going to be one I watch. I want them to win, but they are not a good road team, they are playing against one of the best and fastest NBA teams, on the road, on the second night of a back to back, so I don't think they will win. If they can keep up the hot 3-point shooting and Pau has a good defensive night, they have a chance. As far as a trade goes, I doubt it. I don't see Howard going on the block this year, so Bynum is not going to be traded. I actually posed a Pau for Boozer and CJ Watson trade question here a few days back, and I think a deal like that might work. The Lakers do not have enough marketable pieces to get a top flight point guard, and none of the ones they could get straight up for Pau are available. I did not like the idea of the CP3 trade when it was floated. It addressed one need but opened up another by including both PFs.

FLASHBACK: If the Lakers did not trade Eddie Jones, would Kobe be who he is today?

I was thinking about this tonight. When Kobe was drafted, they had Eddie Jones at shooting guard already. Eddie was a very good player at that time. I assume the Lakers traded Eddie Jones so that Kobe would develop, and of course, the rest is history. I think Kobes growth as a player would have been stunted and not nearly the player he is today if LA did not trade Jones, and they would not have had as many, if any at all, championships, either.
Answer: What up Dave Oba Kob, i think it's a really interesting question. Actually i don't think much would have changed- because Kobe is who he is today because of his hard work- and when Jerry West acquired Kobe he saw that Kobe was easily the most talented player on a very talented Laker squad. They traded away Divac who was one of the most quality starting centers in the league at the time (and this was before they acquired Shaq) so it wasn't like Divac was "surplus". i think actually having to play against Eddie Jones (one of the best defenders in the league at the time) helped his growth. Kobe was given some chances -- and i think he didn't get more chances not because of how good Eddie Jones is- as much as it was that he wasn't quite ready and had some maturing to do- which happened quickly. Kobe is who he is today- because of how hard he works at his game and i think he carries himself that way regardless of who would be playing in front of him or any team he would be on. Nickster

Answer: In the short run it is a bad trade because Evans is a solid backup for Kobe and Cook's range is definitely needed on the Lakers. But in the long run, it is a good trade because Ariza is a solid defender who is young and talented. Cook has not had a breakout season and i doubt he ever will. Maurice Evans is almost 30 and i doubt he would provide any more in the than he is right now. So i would say its a loss for the Lakers right now, but just wait and see what Ariza has in store.

Answer: Radmonovic is weak. Kwame sucks. Farmar is mediocre. Crittenton might be good and he might stink, if he can't learn how to cut down on the turnovers and take smart shots. As a Kings fan, I'd rather have Francisco than any of these guys. I definitely want Artest out of here, and I'd love to see him destroy the Lakers, but that's not fair value for him, even with his immense baggage. Answer: Let's try for a realistic reply here: Memphis has been losing money for years. They are a small city with a small fan base in a small advertising revenue area. The owner of the Grizzlies is cheap, too cheap to pay for top rate talent to make the team a contender. Because they've lost so much money, have poor attendance and can't rely much on added advertising revenue just to try to stay in the black they traded away the only high-salaried player they had. It was done for business reasons. Much like the Florida Marlins, after winning the world series, started dumping their high priced players because they couldn't afford them in their small-market, small revenue area. Also, the NBA has to approve of all trades between all teams before the trades become final and it isn't likely that they would approve of any trade if there was any real evidence, or even the possibility, that a trade was 'fixed.' It just ain't gonna happen. Daniel Stern wouldn't allow the same kind of bad publicity baseball is getting.
