AGORAPHOBIA???
does anyone else here deal with Agoraphobia?
have you recovered from it? what did you do to get over your fears??
Ive had Agoraphobia for about 2.5 years now. it was really bad to the point that i wouldnt leave the house hardly at all, not i leave the house a lot but i dont drive myself anywhere. i only go if someone is taking me because Im scared to have a panic attack while i drive.
would love to hear from other people who have dealt with Agoraphobia!!
Answer: I used to have it really badly. Now it's only moderate. I went to counseling for a while for it, and although it still affects me, I try to tell myself that nothing bad is going to happen to me. Still I feel really awkward when I leave the house sometimes.

Is there a complete cure for AGORAPHOBIA ? Or do medication just reduce the problem temporary ?
I am looking for the best person to go to, because Ive got Agoraphobia and Im sick of it now. Whom should I visit ? Psychiatrist ? Psychologist ? Physio therapist ? Hypnoses ? Which one? If its none of the above, what do you consider best, for me to be completely cured ?
I want to be 101% free from Agoraphobia again and start living the life I had before !
Thanks for your comments in advance !
Answer: They cant help you. Study emotional abuse diet and exercise. Then learn about Gods ways to help your past abuse or trama Google deliverance and forgiveness.
The FDA will not let the drug manufactures claim there is a chemical imbalance without their qualifiers. Why? It is only assumed there is a chemical imbalance.
Psychiatrists claim that a person needs a drug to combat their chemical imbalance in the brain which is causing a persons mental disorder. However, the concept that a brain-based, chemical imbalance underlies mental illness is false. While popularized by heavy public marketing, it is simply psychiatric wishful thinking. As with all of psychiatrys disease models, it has been thoroughly discredited by researchers.
Diabetes is a biochemical imbalance. However, as Harvard psychiatrist Joseph Glenmullen states, the definitive test and biochemical imbalance is a high blood sugar balance level. Treatment in severe cases is insulin injections, which restore sugar balance. The symptoms clear and retest shows the blood sugar is normal. Nothing like a sodium imbalance or blood sugar imbalance exists for depression or any other psychiatric syndrome.
Psychiatrists do not draw blood or perform spinal taps to determine the presence of a biochemical imbalance in patients. They merely observe the patients and announce the existence of the imbalances. The purpose is to encourage patients to take drugs."

How can I be treated for my BPD and AGORAPHOBIA without money or insurance?
Because of my Agoraphobia I have been unable to work, but I have been denied Social Security benefits. I would like to get better, but I have no money, no current doctor, and no health insurance. Help!
Answer: I really feel for you. I have a friend who is going through a similar situation where his mood disorder will not allow him to maintain employment. Please give yourself time to get better. I’ve read that the average time it takes to properly diagnose a mental illness is over eight years.
In the sources section below, I’ve included some links that might be useful. Needy Meds is an information clearinghouse on programs (private, state, and federal) that help people pay for medical care. You can search for medication programs, programs by state, and programs by medical condition. Mood Garden is a site devoted to people with bipolar disorder and other mood disorders. A community like that might help you figure out what to do next. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has offices throughout the country. Local members should be able to provide some guidance. The next link goes to a free clinic search page, and the following one is a search form for free medical care through the Bureau of Primary Health Care.

How do you know if someone has AGORAPHOBIA?
How do you know if someone has Agoraphobia? My friend lately hasnt been wanting to hang out with me outside, he always wants to stay home and do things inside. I invite him places but he never wants to go. He has left school too without even getting his diploma and just stays on the computer all day. Its been almost a year like this. I am worried about him. Does this mean he has Agoraphobia? If so why and how can I help him?
Answer: from wikipedia.org
Definition
Agoraphobia is a condition where the sufferer becomes anxious in environments that are unfamiliar or where he or she perceives that they have little control. Triggers for this anxiety may include wide open spaces, crowds, or traveling (even short distances). This anxiety is often compounded by a fear of social embarrassment, as the agoraphobic fears the onset of a panic attack and appearing distraught in public.[1]

What is the impact AGORAPHOBIA has on society?
Agoraphobia: the fear of an embarrassing or difficult situation where one cannot escape.
Answer: I have social phobia. When it was bad I couldn't leave the house for fear of embarrassment or a difficult situation where I couldn't escape, causing me to have a panic attack.
Agoraphobics will not leave the house for general fear of a panic attack in public.
Translated from Greek, it means "fear of the marketplace".
As for society, I have very little impact - only welfare until I can return to work. My doctor has ordered me to choose work carefully or I could end up in hospital.
I know it doesn't help much, but I wanted to clear things up a bit

She told me she has Agoraphobia when i first met her but she was perfectly fine and chatty but the next time i saw her outside she looked confused and afraid to talk to me she just looked forward like i didnt exist. Can Agoraphobia make a person like that?
oh so she probably freezes when she leaves the house and is in fear thats why she probably ignores me sometimes. She never leaves on her own.
Answer: I have Agoraphobia and I think I can explain. You have good days and bad days. On a good day you can control the anxiety and even have relatively normal conversations. On a bad day you just pray you haven't been seen. It's not that she's ignoring you. She simply cannot overcome the anxiety she feels and she may even be lost in her own world as she fights to be outside. She may not be aware that you are there. Hope this helps.

What medicine can help with my AGORAPHOBIA?
I have a self-diagnosed case of Agoraphobia, self-diagnosed because my symptoms are very similar to Agoraphobia.
My question is to anyone who may have it. I am not sure if there are any, but what OTC medicines will help with the symptoms? I want to go to the doctor, but I would rather see if I can get some easy help before I go that route.
For those who do not know, Agoraphobia is when a person can get very scared and panicky when placed in an unfamiliar place or when placed in large crowds.
Answer: Well there aren't any over the counter anti-anxiety medications on the market. Well there maybe but they are probably homeopathic medicine (which for obvious reasons won't work) So until you go and see an actual physician so he/she may make a actual medical diagnosis, you aren't going to get any real results from OTC. Therapy may be more helpful the self medicating.

Whats the difference between disliking crowded places and actual AGORAPHOBIA?
A friend of mine thinks she has Agoraphobia and wants to go to the doctor but I feel it might just be that she doesnt like crowded places. Where is the distinction?
Answer: A true agoraphobic cannot even leave their home, so your friend is merely neurotic, that's all, and a few therapy sessions might actually "cure" that, so let her go to see a shrink if she wants to, it certainly couldn't hurt, right?
Good luck!... :-D

What work can someone suffering from AGORAPHOBIA do to earn a living?
Even someone with Agoraphobia needs to earn money to live on.But How can they earn a living when they have problems going out, socialising etc.Home jobs dont pay enough,But would be ideal if they existed. All the jobs i find working from home are a con. What jobs exist that a agoraphobic person could cope with and live decently and happy.
Answer: I suffered from Agoraphobia for a couple of years & understand your dilemma. Fortunately for me I can go out now, however, I still get anxious.
I've looked in & tried most of the 'at home' positions & yes, the majority of them don't bring in more than a few dollars here or there.
What does work is eBay. You can become an affiliate & sell people's products for them. This means you don't have to ship any stock from your home. You can also buy bulk stock for cheaper (like digital cameras) & sell them for a profit, this does require access to a post office, do you have a partner or a friend who could make your deliveries? I'm sure you could 'hire' someone to drop in twice a week to forward your packages. Maybe opt for child labour & call the neighbours to see if they have kids who want some extra $$$
Another top seller on eBay is plus size clothes for women.
If you google something like "plus size clothes wholesale" or "wholesale products" or affiliates, you might find some interesting info.
Another idea that I looked into was the breeding of burmese cats, or any popular breed of pet (do your research). These days there are mobile vets & potential purchasers will come to your home, so there's no need to go anywhere. You can also baby sit pets of owners who are travelling, I'm not sure of how you would set it up, or how much money you'd get, but it might be worth a look. I guess the above ideas would be no use to you if you hated animals!! I found that when I was agoraphobic, my two cats were my best friends!
Another idea I've played around with is proof reading. You have to do a small course from home. This can lead to editing manuscripts/ads/books etc. You can also write poems for Hallmark cards and get paid. Google it for more information.
Finally - and you might not want to hear this, but -, unfortunately, there's little to no jobs out there that don't require you to invest some sort of money initially before you start earning. This, I found, was the biggest downfall to being an eager agoraphobic employee.
I wish you the absolute best of luck, I know how frustrating it is!! If all else fails, contact Centrelink & ask them for their advice. Don't forget to remind them that an agoraphobic can't leave the house, ever, never, not at all, regardless of the circumstance!! I had one lady book me an appointment at one of the Centrelink offices??!!! Some people just don't get it do they!!
GOOD LUCK HONEY!!!

Does AGORAPHOBIA effect the Chinese and the Japanese in big cities?
The cities in China are very populated and crowded. So I wondered if Agoraphobia is heard of over there. If anyone knows if it is a problem like in the Western Countries.
Answer: TKS might be a good term to look up. It is a psychological term used in Japan that generalises type of psychological syndromes where people becomes phobic to crowd or people.
According to some statistics (sorry, couldn't find a link...), the relative population of people suffering from TKS is extremely high in East Asia compared to most of the Western countries for teenagers and early 20's.
Such social background led to invetion of a terminology such as TKS, which you hardly hear in Western countries, but is almost a general knowledge in Japan.
