Is Carlos Monzon a forgotten man when it comes to talking about great fighters of the past?
I know he had his demons outside the ring and done some bad things but as a boxer he had a tremendous record 100 fights and only 3 loses and defended his title 14 times over a period of 7 years. Is he overshadowed by the likes of Hagler,Hopkins and Sugar Ray Robinson when it comes to the middleweight division
Answer: No he isn't forgotten. To casual fans he isn't as well known as Hagler, Robinson and Hopkins, because he only fought outside of South America once I believe so didn't get the extensive coverage other boxers did, as lestermo says, but to big fans of the sport he will always be remembered. His three losses as a pro were in his first year, he beat every single top level opponent he ever faced, going 13 years and 81 contests unbeaten and retiring as undefeated world middleweight champion. I would rank him fourth greatest middleweight of all time, behind Greb, Robinson and Hagler, although its very possible that Monzon could beat Hagler, in his prime he would have a good chance against any middleweight, and any boxing fan/historian/expert would rank him highly.

Jacques Kallis is he THE FORGOTTEN MAN in the world cup?
With all the talk about Tendulkar having his last chance to be in a winning world cup side should the same be not said about Kallis? I feel his career has been as much illustrious as Sachins and he would also deserve it as much. What is your thoughts on this
Answer: Very much so. Kallis is one of the best all-rounders to have graced the game, even more so in the era which his career spans.
If you consider the role that he has played within the Sth African team, the sheer amount of runs and wickets he has garnered (just at test level) is absolutely, fvckin' astonishing.
He's a better one-day player, I just hope he's fit to bowl properly, they'll need him.
Not having Kallis able to bowl more than a couple of overs here and there was a major reason India were able to get away with whatever it was they didn't really do in SA.

Is Javier Hernandez some kind of forgotten man now?
Why is he not starting...?
Does Fergie reckon Welbeck is better?
always said this....Welbeck is the Andy Cole, Hernandez is the Solksjaer (impact sub)
Answer: I'm a Manchester United fan and as much as I appreciate all the goals Hernandez has scored for us I don't think his general gameplay is good enough to be at a club like Manchester United. For me I think he only gets praised when he scores but even in those games just analyse his general performance its average at best, I don't think he's good enough with his back to goal, his touch isn't perfect and the majority of his finishes are just simple tap ins similar to Mario Gomez although Gomez scores much more goals. I'm a massive fan of Dimitar Berbatov I think after Wayne Rooney he is our best striker he holds the ball up so well, is physically very strong and is a great finisher I don't know why Sir Alex hasn't been playing Berbatov much this season he is defintaely my first choice. As for Danny Welbeck I like him too great footballer I'd also take him over Hernandez.

Why have the "liberals" forgotten once again about the "Forgotten Man" who pays for their schemes?
http://www.swarthmore.edu/SocSci/rbannis1/AIH19th/Sumner.Forgotten.html
The phrase "The forgotten man" did not originate with FDR, contrary to the propaganda most Americans were taught in school. The phrase originated with the 19th century laissez-faire Yale professor William Graham Sumner. In fact, just as FDR distorted the meaning of the word "liberal" (in the 19th century, a "liberal" was a person who favored laissez-faire and usually non-interventionism in foreign policy; this term more accurately described the "right-wing" opponents of FDR), FDR also distorted the meaning of the phrase "Forgotten Man." From Sumner:
"It is when we come to the proposed measures of relief for the evils which have caught public attention that we reach the real subject which deserves our attention. As soon as A observes something which seems to him to be wrong, from which X is suffering, A talks it over with B, and A and B then propose to get a law passed to remedy the evil and help X. Their law always proposes to determine what C shall do for X or, in the better case, what A, B and C shall do for X. As for A and B, who get a law to make themselves do for X what they are willing to do for him, we have nothing to say except that they might better have done it without any law, but what I want to do is to look up C. I want to show you what manner of man he is. I call him The forgotten man. Perhaps the appellation is not strictly correct. He is the man who never is thought of. He is the victim of the reformer, social speculator and philanthropist,"
Sumner goes on:
"Who pays for it all? The system of plundering each other soon destroys all that it deals with. It produces nothing. Wealth comes only from production, and all that the wrangling grabbers, loafers, and jobbers get to deal with comes from somebodys toil and sacrifice. Who, then, is he who provides it all? Go and find him and you will have once more before you The forgotten man. You will find him hard at work because he has a great many to support. Nature has done a great deal for him in giving him a fertile soil and an excellent climate and he wonders why it is that, after all, his scale of comfort is so moderate. He has to get out of the soil enough to pay all his taxes, and that means the cost of all the jobs and the fund for all the plunder. The forgotten man is delving away in patient industry, supporting his family, paying his taxes, casting his vote, supporting the church and the school, reading his newspaper, and cheering for the politician of his admiration, but he is the only one for whom there is no provision in the great scramble and the big divide.
Such is The forgotten man. He works, he votes, generally he prays-- but he always pays--yes, above all, he pays. He does not want an office; his name never gets into the newspaper except when he gets married or dies. He keeps production going on. He contributes to the strength of parties. He is flattered before election. He is strongly patriotic. He is wanted, whenever, in his little circle, there is work to be done or counsel to be given. He may grumble some occasionally to his wife and family, but he does not frequent the grocery or talk politics at the tavern. Consequently, he is forgotten. He is a commonplace man. He gives no trouble. He excites no admiration. He is not in any way a hero (like a popular orator); or a problem (like tramps and outcasts); nor notorious (like criminals); nor an object of sentiment (like the poor and weak); nor a burden (like paupers and loafers); nor an object out of which social capital may be made (like the beneficiaries of church and state charities); nor an object for charitable aid and protection (like animals treated with cruelty); nor the object of a job (like the ignorant and illiterate); nor one over whom sentimental economists and statesmen can parade their fine sentiments (like inefficient workmen and shiftless artisans). Therefore, he is forgotten. All the burdens fall on him, or on her, for it is time to remember that The forgotten man is not seldom a woman."
Answer: Don't really claim to know anything about Sumner but based upon your quotes, The forgotten man you seem to hold so dear is symbolic of the working class, the lower and middle classes that, according to Sumner, provide the "toil and sacrifice."
Liberals are looking out for The forgotten man while conservatives defend those who make over $200,000/year and the wealthiest 1%.

why is george dixon a forgotten man when he was actualy the first black champ?
george dixon who?? this maybe the words youll hear if you ask your neighbor or your a friend but jack johnson, the first black heavyweight is quite well known. why is that? i dont know, to be honest but lets take a quick look why this man should never be forgotten as he is actualy one of the greatest ever and is name is well written in the history book.
"little chocolate" was the first black fighter to win a world championship. he not only was bantamweight champ but even held featherweight championships (1891-1897, 1898-1900) winning his first championship at age 20. the man fought 23 world title bouts, some records even show 33. this has to be the most until joe louis. you know he was dominating featherweight while never weighing beyond 118 pounds. now how tough was that? his record shows 158 fights but the actual number is really unknown. his manager even claimed that dixon had over 800.
this man was a complete fighter and often tagged the greatest of his time. he founded the "black school" of pugilism of which joe walcott, jack johnson and joe gans who studied under his guidance. ring magazine founder nat fleischer decribed him as a marvel of cleverness, yet he could hit and slug with the best of them. was fast, tricky, combative, canny, courageous, a master in every respect of the art of self-defense, a great ring general.
his left hand was one of the best in the business. his double left to the body has never been equaled. his right was equally good”
one thing that really amazed me is that that he once went 70 ROUNDS IN HIS FIRST FIGHT WITH CAL MCCARTHY! his domination was really something, often fighting even guys up to lightweight. he was champ for 10 years. most people would say eder jofre but some fate him number 1 bantamweight of all time.
Answer: Unfortunately many of the fighters in Dixon's era have been forgotten.Even less remembered if you weren't a heavyweight. Many fighters from that time were never filmed or there is very little footage of them.Among the ones that were filmed often, the quality isn't very good at all. It's the rare fight from 90 or more years ago that is in good quality and thankfully we have what we do have. The only surviving footage of Dixon that i am aware of is a silly little sparring match he was having for the spectators and camera.Don't be fooled neither fighter actually fought that way, they were just messing around for the camera. Many fighters that fought before WWII are forgotten and the fighters afterwards are remembered much better, for two reasons. There are people still alive who remember them and television.More people got to see these guys and as time went on and more people got tv's fighters became more well known. It's why most boxing fans know Rocky Marciano and Sugar Ray Robinson because there fights survived and why Ali became so popular.Ali fought in the 60's when having a tv in the house was much more commonplace and more people got exposed to the charismatic fighter, making him extremely popular.
George Dixon had a record of 65(37)-29-51.Those are the bouts that we know of,like you mention he may have had hundreds more. That type of activity wasn't uncommon in those days. The world was a rough place back then especially if you were black.I'm sure he fought whenever and who ever to make a few bucks.Dixon was certainly a great fighter and people will look at his record and judge him by it a face value, but you have to take into account the times he fought in.Nobody was protected and there were less regulation.Nobody ducked each other either, you fought who was out there and if you lost, you lost.Dixon fought great fighters like Young Griffo,Frank Erne,Terry McGovern,Abe Attell, and Jim Driscoll. He held his own against all of them and like many of the fighters of that time including the ones i just mentioned should be remembered and appreciated by all boxing fans.
