Japanese scientists want to bring the WOOLY MAMMOTH back from extinction. Good idea - yay or nay?
Theyre going to use DNA tissue that remains from some frozen mammoth remains and implant it into an egg or something. I dont know the scientific details.
If you think it is a good idea how far do you think they should go?
Should they brng back the t-rex, the Sabre Toothed Tiger?
Personally I think bringing back the mammoth is okay as long as were sure they could withstand the Earth as it is today (enough food, climate etc) but leave the Sabre Toothed Tiger and t-rex dead and buried!
Answer: They can pretty much clone and change the DNA of anything these days. I'm waiting for them to be able to make "custom babies," and you can choose whether the kid will have green eyes or blue, blonde hair or brown.
Of course, it'll be a big step in science to be able to bring back the dead, but the dead are just that, DEAD. There's a reason the species have gone extinct. Why can't nature just stay the same, without some freaky Frankenstein experiments?

Answer: well, not here. They're evolved for below freezing temperature. they have about a few inches of fat and long hairs. The average temparature is high for a Wooly mammoth. They would probably live in Canada, alaska, Russia, or Europe, where they origanally lived in the ice age

What are some postive and negative things about cloning a WOOLY MAMMOTH?
Answer: As a scientific experiment, there is really nothing negative about it. It is unlikely that the clone will become a pest even if it escapes, because there is just one, and it cannot multiply. We get to learn about the biology of a species that we have never known in life and therefore increase our understanding of nature and also the cloning process.

Are scientists going to recreate the WOOLY MAMMOTH?
Ive heard and read about scientists finding a frozen Wooly mammoth that still had skin on it so they collected a DNA sample of it and they say they hope to recreate it someday in the future but Im wondering if thats true. And if they do, wont it mess up the biosphere?
Answer: They were planning on fertilizing an elephant egg with frozen sperm from a mammoth to produce a hybrid. Then they were planning to repeat the process to dilute the elephant genes down to negligible levels. Problem is the frozen sperm recovered are dead and inactive, it may be possible to force a fertilization but it's not clear that the epigenome would be intact. DNA is like a computer program, it's not just a bunch of instructions but where you are in the instructions and what values are in the variables that determine what will happen, we have the instructions but don't know where or what values to have in the variables and constants to restart the run.
Everything we do, changes the biosphere. It's natural for the biosphere to change. Just trying to keep it from changing is unnatural in itself though beneficial to us as we like it the way it is now.

Cloning the WOOLY MAMMOTH - when will it be done?
I heard the first cloned, walking mammoth is expected to be around the year 2020. Have you read/heard anything otherwise?
Answer: It could certainly be possible, because most of the genome has already been mapped out, but there's also the economic side to it; it will probably cost $2 million? Not too sure, but you can definitely say it's gonna be a hell of a lot. Also, if we are successful, you probably wouldn't be able to see it because we need to study it and find out what they eat and how they survive, because they have been extinct for millions of years; now is certainly very different from when they were still alive. There's also the life expectancy to be considered, as we're putting so much money in this, we want to be able to make sure the money goes to good use. Dolly, the first clone sheep, died much faster than normal sheep, as did other cloned species. So scientists certainly got lots of things on their plate.
I would say it's definitely possible to clone the woolly mammoth, but I don't really think it'll be out in 10 years... but that's just my opinion.
