How do I stop my shins from hurting when I run?
I love working out on the elliptical machine but Ive had to cancel my gym membership because money is tight. Ive never liked running on the ground because it feels weird on my shins. Is there a certain running technique I could learn to stop this from happening? Im also flat footed if that makes a difference.

Why have my shins started hurting all of the sudden when I run?
For years, I run on the treadmill at full slope. But within the past month or so, my shins have hurt so much when I run, that Ive started having to lower the inclination. Why the sudden pain? I havent started eating differently or doing anything else differently. Whats up? And, what should I do? Should I tough out the pain and burn the calories, or lower the slope and ease the pain?
Answer: Google shin splints to find remedies. Most require resting and not running for a period of time. I tape my legs from ankle to the bottom of my calf. This helps a little, but still constant pain when training. Good luck.

How do you strengthen your shins for a lacrosse goalie?
I am a goalie for lacrosse and i want to strengthen my shins, so i was wondering since kick boxers kick poles and **** to strengthen and harden their shins would similar things help for a goalie such as hitting your shin with a shaft or just get shot on at The shins?
Answer: I play women's lacrosse as goalie - I've been playing for four years and I find the best way to improve strength and tolerance to shots is to get someone to shoot at your body, lightly at first and then increasing speed. Make sure you don't get shot at too hard or you could damage your shins permanently.

How can I strengthen my shins and calves for running, and why are strong shins important?
I know how important calves are, but what about shins?
how can i strengthen the two of them without the use of expensive equiptment?
It needs to be a fairly hard exercise because I have been doing 1 legged calf raises on each leg every night and It just takes too long for it to be hard now, i need a more challenging way.
also, how do you strengthen the knees?
Answer: I would say you can do stairs, lungees, and many other exercises. Stairs, such as running up and down on bleachers, is an effective way to strengthen your muscles, especially if you run on your tippy toes. Lungees, mostly help your thighs, but it also workouts your bottom portion of your leg as well. Chins are a very important part of a runner's body, if someone doesn't take care of it, it can lead to shin splints, which is both painful and you will need to take some time off to let it heal. (Shin splints is when the muscle begins detaching from the bone.) Knees, I don't think there is a way to strengthen it, probably running does, because knees always bend when your running, and almost on all of your exercises. Good Luck!

What is the best stretching exercise for THE SHINS?
I jog a lot and my shins seem to be bothering me lately. What kind of stretch exercise is best for this? And what are some ways of avoiding shin pains other than stretching?
Answer: I do alot of running
I tend to get the same discomfort around the shin area
It'd may help to do alot of joint excirses before training/competing
such as rotating the foot and stretching the shin (pointing toes upwords, helps to lean off a step, or putting preasure on your shin by leaning forward on it)
Also, I'd recomend regularly taking glucosamine tablets (at least one a day), this well help with discomfort with muscles, joints and so on, it's good to take it anyway when doing large amounts of excirsise
I'd also recomend getting orthotics. It could just be that you're foot's not getting enough support.

Answer: I've listened to The shins before Garden State came out. Having their songs in the movie made me go see it. It's an excellent movie. I'm glad that they're getting more attention now. They deserve it.

How can I safely train my shins for Muay Thai?
I heard that hitting you shins with a stick can do more damage then good. Same with rolling a hard stick up and down the shin. Apparently those are rumored conditioning methods. Are there any confirmed and proven shin conditioning methods that wont bring harm in the future?
Answer: Take a bakers rolling pin and use that but start out lightly and like anything else you are not used to, take it slow and progress as your tolerence allows.

What are the side effects of rolling your shins to kill the nerves?
I hear that for Mauy Thai training you have to role a marble cylinder up and down your shins with good pressure to kill the nerve cells in your shins so that you can tolerate the pain associated with kicks and blocks in Mauy Thai.
However I was wondering what the short and long term effects of doing this would be?

How can I start running without my calves and shins hurting?
Every time I try to start a daily running habit, I get really bad pain in my calves and the insides of my shins after about three days. By the time I wait for the pain to go away, it seems like Ive already lost whatever fitness Id gained from the running. I only run about a quarter to half a mile per day, and I have good running shoes. What am I doing wrong? And is there anything I can do to fix it?
Answer: Make sure to stretch your shin's/calves correctly (just do a google search on 'shin calve stretches'. Try to site on the ground with legs extended and point your toes forwards (hold for 20 seconds). Then point them back towards you (hold for 20 seconds). Also make sure to check if you over pronate or not (a chiropractor or orthopedic tech can check this out). You may need to change your running shoes (this can be a common cause). I run with Asics Gel Kayano 14's (you can get them at Nordstrom rack faitly cheap)with good ankle/heel support and stability. Also, try to take it easy for a few days and just ice your shins- at least 10-20 minutes per shin up to 3 times daily. Hope this helps

How come my shins hurt when I run at the track but dont hurt when I run on the road?
I have noticed that my shins hurt every time I run on the track but dont hurt when I run on the road. Does anybody know why? Any suggestions on how to fix the problem?
Answer: I think you may land differently on the track then the road. You probably adjusted yourself to make running on the road not painful. Normally running on a track would be better for your legs/shins then on a road. So I doubt it's the track and you may be pushing yourself too hard on the track.
