For first degree murder or serious cases of second degree murder is any punishment less than life ok?

For the most part I tend to disagree because I feel that since a life was taken and the victim does not have a second chance to restore themself that life without parole is appropriate. Yes in some states you have people who committed first degree or second degree murder and was paroled that never reoffended. However, I find it unfair to the victm that was killed and their families to allow someone who took a life to get a second chance.
Answer: pretty much the person who had a right to take a life had the time to plan.

Answer: I agree that is surely seemed like first degree murder. I believe it had to do with Bustamante agreeing to plead guilty upfront to the lesser charge. This allowed them to skip the trial and get a conviction right away. This seems to be a common way things are done.

Answer: I'm not a lawyer, but i think it has something to do with how far along the woman is in her pregnancy. Also when a woman CHOOSES to have an abortion, she is determining the fate of her child. When a pregnant woman is killed, neither of them get a choice. I personally think that abortion should be considered murder

Alaska, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin. I have had murders get sentenced to as little as 20 years, which back then, in my state meant they could be out on parole in 8 years. Once got a warrant on a guy for a triple homicide. A record check showed he had been convicted of murder in Texas and only served 4 years.

I’m not an attorney, but it seems to me we can deduce at least two things from the just-announced charge against George Zimmerman in the killing of Trayvon Martin: 1. The special prosecutor didn’t buy Zimmerman’s claims of self-defense.
