What causes the sky to go yellow during SEVERE WEATHER?

What was the most SEVERE WEATHER condition to ever hit New Jersey?
What was the most Severe weather condition to ever hit New Jersey? Please give a source. Thank you.
Answer: There is a lot of Severe weather in New Jersey, even outside the near record snows of this past winter. The area was hit by series of what many know as Nor Easters. Basically snow storms that move up from the south and aided by water off the Atlantic.
Then there are the tornadoes and severe thunderstorms that are spawned each spring and who can forget the brushes with hurricanes. Though relatively quite the past 4-5 years, one can never discount the very real threat they pose.
Hurricane Agnes was one of the worst storms ever to the New Jersey and I have provided some links to show you the history of that area... Besides, I was a weather forecaster in New Jersey for awhile.

What is considered a necessary journey when SEVERE WEATHER conditions?
When it says dont drive unless its completely necessary what do they consider to be completely necessary?

im in south east england and every website says Severe weather warnings in london and south east so im wondering what is necessary, i cant find out on any of those websites and yahoo answers says noone else has asked!
thanks
Answer: They mean things like medical emergencies but it would much safer to phone an ambulance than to drive yourself as they are trained to drive in all conditions, no matter how bad they are.
If the snow is really bad, phone your school or collage and they will tell you if it is even open today. But if the roads look dangerous around your house phone your school/collage and tell them that you cannot come in.

What part of a middle lattitude cyclone has most SEVERE WEATHER?
A textbook states that south of the center, precipitation occurs at the warm front and thunderstorms/tornadoes occur at the cold front; but the most Severe weather can be north of the center.
What is the explanation for Severe weather north of center?
Answer: It would have to be snow-related - usually, the worst Severe weather can be found in the warm sector between the cold and warm front. If you wanted to be really complicated, you could argue thunderstorms that form in the vicinity of a warm front, although rare, typically have greater shear because of the sudden wind shift, increasing the chance of tornadoes. Typically, that argument is used only on an as-needed basis, because you have to have a pretty decent front and a good temperature gradient to do this (in fact, the area ahead of the warm front is classified in the Norweigan cyclone model as the "dry conveyor belt". So that might be the answer, although if it's for a high-school class, I wouldn't argue it ;)

SEVERE WEATHER?
Do you like Severe weather like me? I like looking at the Lightning. I try to take a picture of it,but Ive never caught it yet. People call me stupid because I like Severe weather. Thats not stupid right? God made Severe weather for use to see. Do you like Severe weather too?
Answer: Severe weather is great. I love watching the storms and photographing lightning. A tip for actually catching it, here's what I do: film the storm with a digital camera, then when you play the video on your computer you can pull out the pictures of the lightning. It's a much cheaper way than getting one of those lightning cameras. People call me crazy and stupid too, but whatever. All they can see is death and destruction and a threatening situation. Once you look past that, the nasty weather is the best stuff.

Is there a corrolation between SEVERE WEATHER and location?
I know that there are obviously more severe thunderstorms in the South and Midwest, but Im talking about where I live in central Maryland. It seems like whenever I think a severe thunderstorm will hit my house, it either goes just north or just south, or it completely falls apart before reaching my house. Also, it seems like Harrisburg, PA and the surrounding towns up there in Southern Pennsylvania have a lot more Severe weather as well. By the way, I live in Columbia, MD if that helps. Any ideas as to why this happens?
Answer: For the most part it is just by chance that has occurred. I'm not familiar with the terrain of that area but in some cases storms are more frequent near mountains and ridges because those ridges can give an extra boost for rising air into the storms, as well as for helping them form to begin with.

What are they predicting this year as far as SEVERE WEATHER goes?
What are they predicting this year as far as Severe weather goes in the midwest / midsouth US? Which places are they saying will be hit the hardest?
Thanks!
Answer: Being in North Texas and having an extreme fear of Severe weather, I would like to know this too. Unfortunately, weather forecasters can't really predict how bad it will be more than 7 days in advance. Take the 2007 Atlantic Hurricane season for example, they said that it was being to be a bad year but we had about the same amount of hurricanes that we have every year. It wasn't nearly as bad as they thought that it was going to be. From what I heard one day on my NOAA weather radio is that we are going to have a El Nino winter and spring which I believe means that we will have a warmer than usual winter and spring. I honestly do not think that it will be as bad in 2008 as it was in 2007.

Weather Runs Hot and Cold, So Scientists Look to the Ice
Some people call what has been happening the last few years weather weirding, and March is turning out to be a fine example. As a surreal heat wave was peaking across much of the nation last week, pools and beaches drew crowds, some farmers planted their crops six weeks early, and trees burst into bloom. The trees said: Aha! Lets get - Researchers, noting the seesawing temperatures of the last few years, are developing theories that may tie at least some of the erratic weather to global warming; suspicion is focused on the decline of sea ice in the Arctic, believed to be a consequence of the human release of greenhouse gases. Alas, for poor Beau, a bichon frisé who suffered a nasty tick - Entomologists say mild weather in much of the country means ticks may begin appearing earlier in the season than usual; an explosion of the population is said to be unlikely, but with people outdoors enjoying the unseasonable temperatures, opportunities exist for the pests to be more active. How Far Would You Go For a Comeback?
WILLISTON, N.D. LAST spring, Bob Ripka decided the time had come for drastic change. His once-robust income from his job at a printing company was dwindling. His family lost its house in the real estate crash. And employment prospects around his home in Pine City, Minn., more than an hour north of Minneapolis, appeared scant. He heard talk around - Oil field work around Williston, ND, is drawing men from around the country who have uprooted themselves to live in man camps, which consist of small cubicles reminiscent of barracks or dormitories; an estimated 1,200 housing units are expected to be completed in Williston to serve the industry that will have 3,000 to 4,000 job openings in the area. How to prepare yourself with SEVERE WEATHER?
How Do You Prepare For:
Flooding?
Tornadoes?
Severe Thunderstorms?
Thanks There Is Severe weather Heading Our Way and Were On Alert!
Answer: It really depends on what kind of Severe weather it is. For example, if there is a tornado or severe thunderstorm warning in your area, weather stations will typically advise you to stay away from windows. The best options are usually the bathroom or basement. In the event of high rising flooding, you will need to go to a higher floor. If the flooding is severe enough, you would be told to evacuate your home - this is more likely to happen right before a hurricane or anything considered catastrophic.
In the event of Severe weather, one must always be prepared for a possible power outage. It's generally a good idea to keep these items in locations that are easily and quickly accessed:
Flashlights
Batteries
Electric Lanterns (there are now electric lanterns that you can charge up just by winding a crank on it)
Candles
Lighters or matches for the candles (for adults to handle)
Cell phone
Battery powered Radio (for weather updates and possible instructions)
If you have a fire place, your family can use that for better lighting.
The most important thing to remember during Severe weather is to get indoors and remain there until the storm is over. Stay close with your family, and have books, magazines, iPod, etc. to keep you entertained. If the power is out for a long period of time and the storm persists, have snacks and bottled beverages ready for consumption.
Generally, Severe weather is normal for this time of year, and you usually don't have to take extreme measures unless you are otherwise instructed to do so by your local TV station or The Weather Channel. You can go to The Weather Channel's official website to read more about storm preparations, your area's weather updates, and more. http://www.weather.com
