Will MARIANO RIVERA be allowed into the hall of fame with the #42?
From what I understand Jackie Robinson is the only player allowed to have the number 42 in the Hall of fame. What if Mariano rivera retires with the Yankees in 2015, and has the all time save game record? Will he be denied into the hall of fame with the #42?
Answer: To be charitable, your understanding has no basis in reality.
Teams retire player numbers. In the sole case of Robinson's #42, Major League Baseball retired the number, with any players wearing it at the time (15-April-1997) allowed to continue to do so if they chose. Rivera is the last "42" player still active. No one will be assigned 42 again.
But that's got nothing to do with the Hall. The Hall honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the game -- mostly players, but others have been honored as well. And the Hall cares nothing about what uniform number a player or manager may have worn during his career.
Will Rivera be elected to the Hall? No one is ever a sure thing, but certainly it appears he will be an outstanding candidate when his time comes.
But regards his jersey, the only matter worth pondering is that, when Mo walks off the field for the last time, so does the #42 jersey. (Except for MLB's annual ham-handed Robinson tribute, the less said of which, the better.) And that'll be a bit sad, because some players really do want to wear it in ongoing tribute to Robinson, and to me live players wearing the number better serve the purpose of keeping Robinson's legacy vital than does a wall hanging in 30 ballparks.

On one end you have the all-time saves leader, on another you have a player who has the lowest ERA for a reliever all-time and 34 saves in the postseason. So who is truly the best? Trevor Hoffman or Mariano rivera.
Answer: Too many of baseball's top analysts have dawned Mariano rivera as being the best closer ever and I'm going to have to agree with them. Not many closers win World Series MVP's.

Would you trust MARIANO RIVERA in this situation?
Its the bottom of the 9th and the score is tied with the bases loaded and is now facing the top of the lineup with Ty Cobb batting 1st, Ted Williams batting 2nd, Derek Jeter batting 3rd and Babe Ruth batting 4th. The count is now 3-0 on Cobb. Do you think Mariano rivera can get out of this jam leaving the score tied?
Answer: I wouldn't want to put any closer in that situation. First, Rivera would only face three batters in this situation. If the bases are loaded with no outs, he would have to get the next three batters out. Ruth would never get a chance to hit because there is no room to put any of the three previous hitters.
Despite being a right-hander, Rivera's cutter is tougher on lefties, so he would have an edge against Cobb and Williams-provided he can throw a strike to Cobb on 3-0. Rivera was in a situation similar to this in the 2004 ALCS. Boston had loaded the bases, and there was either one or no outs. Rivera pitched great, but there was nothing he could do to keep Boston from tying up the game, which was Game 5. It seemed unfair to give him a blown save.
I don't get this Jandy guy. This troll has no purpose in his life. I think most knowledgeable baseball fans believe that Rivera is the best closer in history. Jandy's hometown boy, Papelbon is pathetic in his attempts to put he and Rivera in the same class. Papelbum can't do an interview without comparing he and Rivera.

I believe when all is said & done Trevor Hoffman will get 600 saves. The question is do you believe Mariano rivera will also reach that Milestone?
BQ= Do you sometimes feel at times that its time to hang it up in this Section or this place period? Thats the way i been feeling lately. Anyone ever felt that way?
Answer: Ah, this is hard. The thing is, Mo is 40 years old. Time is unfortunately running out, on his contract (due for renewal after this year) and his career. I think he might start doing an Andy Pettitte-esque thing on the Yankees and signing 1 or 2 year deals. The Yankees also score a lot of runs, so that limits save opportunities a bit. He has 549 saves right now, so that leaves 51 saves left before 600. He's got 23 saves this year, so maybe he will have at least 30 by the end of the year. If he signs a 2 year contract, and also gets 30+ saves, that would put him over the 600 mark. The only slight problem is that, once again, he's 40, and going to be 41 this year. It really depends how long he wants to go, and how long he physically can go. I really hope he can do it though, it would be amazing to see that. And hey, after the World Series, he said he would go another 5 years! ;) (He then backed off of that a bit at spring training, haha)
BQ- I did, for about 4 months or so. I just left, stopped coming. I eventually came back though once summer started and I got bored, and I was disappointed to see that not much has changed. Trolls still run rampant. I'll probably go away again when school starts, when I don't have the time for trolls and their immature antics. If this is good bye, Scooter, I'll miss you and your immense knowledge of everything baseball (not to mention the insanely fun polls!) but I would understand where you're coming from.

Answer: He didn't meet the criteria for a save. He came in with a 3 run lead and 1 out.
To get a save you have to finish the game (check) and:
1) come in with a 3 run lead and get at least 3 outs (Mo only got the last 2 outs);
2) come in with the tying run on deck;
3) pitch effectively for at least 3 innings.
So, no save in game 3.
In game 4, he came in with a 3 run lead and got the last 3 outs, so it is a save.
EDIT: Fo, sho, if a pitcher starts the ninth inning with a 6 run lead and finishes, it ain't a save. Did anyone on the Phillies get a save in game 1? No! If he comes in with a 2 run lead, it means the tying run is on deck.
